Born 1958

Hopi/Assiniboine (Arizona/Montana)

Medium: Jewelry

Hopi/Assiniboine jeweler Steve Wikviya LaRance spent much of his childhood in the Hopi village of Moencopi. During his time spent on Hopi, he was immersed in the culture and this had a great impact on his work. He began to carve katsina dolls as well as bows and arrows to pass the time but during his studies at Grey Hills High School, his creativity evolved as he enrolled in a jewelry class. After graduating high school, Steve attended Northern Arizona University, pursuing an accounting degree before he fully delved into his silversmithing career.

Steve is married to Navajo/San Juan Pueblo jeweler Marian Denipah, with whom he often collaborates with. They are both well known for their tufa cast work.
