Richard Tsosie was born and raised in the Wide Ruins area of the Navajo Reservation in Northern Arizona. He has been actively making jewelry since 1970, when he and his brother, Boyd Tsosie learned the art of silversmithing from well known jeweler Kenneth Begay. They both received national attention when they were featured in a 1979 Arizona Highways Jewelry Collectors edition and have won numerous awards and accolades since. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museum across the nation.
He is primarily known for his contemporary gold and silver jewelry using techniques in fabrication, reticulated, set stone and mosaic inlay. He has also been known to work in sculpture.
