Gene Dawahoya was born on Second Mesa on the Hopi reservation in Northern Arizona. He is a member of the Bear Strap Clan and has been actively carving Katsinas for more than 30 years. He is the brother of noted Katsina doll carver Nuvadi Dawahoya. He is well known for his intricate attention to detail, often carving Katsinum out of one piece of cottonwood.
This Kachina is called Left Handed because he carries his bow in his right hand instead of his left and most of his gear is similarly reversed. He appears in a great many of the dances.
