Vernon Begaye was born and raised on the Navajo Reservation in Northern Arizona. He has been actively making jewelry since 1974 and learned the techniques of silversmithing from his father, Jimmy Begaye.
He is well known for his contemporary gold and silver tufa cast jewelry and has also produced mosaic inlay jewelry and beadwork. Some of his favorite design elements include abstract forms and bears.
