Irving Toddy (1951-2020) was born in Ganado, Arizona, into the Bit'ahnii (Folded Arms People Clan), born for Red Streak Across Forehead (Zuni) and son of noted Navajo painter, Beatien Yazz. He received an MFA from Utah State University where he studied painting and illustration and went on to win many awards at both Santa Fe Indian Market and Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial. His illustrations can be found in publications such as, Cheyenne Again, written by Eve Bunting (HMH, 2002); Canyon Boy, written by Avrum B. Organick (Red Lake Press, 2002); and D is for Drum: A Native American Alphabet, written by Michael Shoulders and Debbie Shoulders (Sleeping Bear Press, 2006).
