Addison Karl's sculptural series reinterprets Mississippian Effigy Head Pots (1200-1500 CE) through bronze and cast glass, honoring the mastery of ancestral artistry while bringing their legacy into the present. The first 3 pieces of this sculptural series include themes such as "Four Directions," "Birdman," and "Rattlesnake," carefully echoing the motifs historically found in authentic Mississippian ceramics. Bronze embodies permanence and heritage; glass conveys transformation and clarity. Through collaboration with museum and Indigenous knowledge keepers, the series reclaims and reawakens ancestral artistry, inspiring dialogue on identity, continuity, and contemporary Native expression.
