Michael Dean Jenkins (b. 1959) was born in Williams, Arizona and is of Hopi and Pima heritage. Jenkins has been actively carving since the 1990's and is well known for his contemporary, one-piece carvings using muted pigments to achieve unique finishes. He currently resides in Flagstaff, Arizona.
This a Rio Grande clown that is sometimes referred to as a Tewa clown. They are considered to be the fathers of the Kachinas. They behave in the usual manner of clowns with loud voices and outrageous antics. They also may serve as drummers for dances.
