CLOWN KOSHARI KACHINA CARVING BY MARLIN PINTO (HOPI)

This a Rio Grande clown that is sometimes referred to as a Tewa clown. They are considered to be the fathers of the Kachinas. They behave in the usual manner of clowns with loud voices and outrageous antics. They also may serve as drummers for dances.

Marlin Pinto (b. 1957) has been actively carving Katsina dolls since 1968. He is a primarily self-taught carver with watching his uncle, Raymond Naha, carve dolls for guidance. He is well known for one-piece carvings as well as his Koshari clowns.

This is a consignment item and is not eligible for layaway.

Katsina dolls are fragile by nature and may be broken in transit. We do our best to pack them efficiently and carefully, however due to their fragility, transit damage is unavoidable in some cases. Please keep this in mind when purchasing katsina dolls online for shipping. Luckily, katsina dolls do not decrease in value when repaired and can usually be repaired in the comfort of your home using a mixture of wood and super glue for smaller, clean breaks. For more extensive repairs from transit damage, see our returns page or store for details.
