Pima baskets are considered among the finest of Southwest baskets with some of the finest weaves measuring over 20 stitches and 8 coils per inch and ranging in size from 2 feet in diameter to less than an inch. The Pima call themselves Akimel O'odham, which means the "River People". They are descended from the Hohokam culture, which flourished between 200- 1450 AD in what is now southern and central Arizona.
