Warrior Yei pottery bowl by Ida Sahmie (Navajo)
Ida Sahmie was born in 1960 and has been making pottery since 1990. She married into a Tewa family and learned how to make pots in the Hopi- Tewa style but decorates her pots with Navajo imagery.
The Yei Rug depicts the "supernatural 'Holy People' who communicate between the Navajos and their gods." They are believed to restore health when invoked in ceremony.
