Pottery bowl by Jody Folwell (Santa Clara) The potters of Santa Clara Pueblo produce a wide variety of high-quality ceramics. Red, black-on-black and polychrome finishes are popular in shapes ranging from large vases to small figurines. Dug from local deposits, the clay is formed by coiling ropes, one on top of the other, and then scraping the surface smooth. After the pot has dried, a mixture of fine clay and water called a 'slip' is often applied and polished with a smooth stone. This stunning pottery bowl measures 6 inches in diameter and 6 inches tall.
