Today, many Navajo artists create stunning pictorial sandpaintings on boards using a variety of ground stones including sandstone, ocher, charcoal, gypsum and turquoise. Sandpainters use fine brushes, glue and colored sand to create intricate pictures that often include yei figures, whirling logs, plants and other traditional imagery.
