The finest examples of polished blackware come from Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico. Polishing is done with riverwashed polishing stones, handed down from one generation to the next. The polishing is done one section at a time, until the rapid polishing strokes yeild a mirrorlike shine. This gorgeous pottery vase with fluted rim measures 7.5 inches tall by 16.5 inches in circumference by 7 inches in diameter.
