Folk art raven carving in wood by Alan Lewis (Zuni)
Alan Lewis was born in Winslow, Arizona, to the late Richard E and Virginia Lewis. Alan's father was a silversmith and his mother was a bead artist. He began carving in the mid 1980's, creating fetish carvings and small sculptures in stone. Since 1995, he has been focusing on wood carving, and is best known for his olla maidens. He also carves local animals such as the raven, and frequently includes traditional symbols on his carvings such as the dragonfly and rain and cloud symbols.
This carving measures 11 1/2 inches tall by 3 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches long.
